DMZ could be making a come back with Modern Warfare 4 and Warzone 3.0 by 2026 according to recent leaks from industry insiders and data miners. With rumours swelling, we wanted to take a look at the information on hand.
DMZ is Call of Duty's attempt at an Extraction game that was released included with Warzone 2.0 when it launched back in 2022. It quickly became a popular mode amongst players and still has high player counts even now, 1 year after development for the mode was abandoned to make way for Modern Warfare Zombies and Modern Warfare 3.
DMZ Expected to Return with Modern Warfare 4 and Warzone 3.0 by 2026
Rumours have been circulating for a long time that DMZ will make a come back in Infinity Wards next game, but there seems to be actual proof now that it will.
Data miner @CODWarefareForum has discovered files within the most recent Warzone update for future projects. One of these projects is Codenamed REX. REX contains many files with labels for Weapons, Modes, Vehicles, and more, but it also contains some strings relating to DMZ.
Project REX has long been known to be an Infinity Ward title down to the way that weapons are named in the files. Each studio has it's own unique way of labelling files, and these weapons are labelled as they are in IW titles.
Of course you could argue that this is left over code from DMZ and Modern Warfare 2. That wouldn't be a stretch as much of the DMZ code can be found in Modern Warfare Zombies as the mode was built up using DMZ as the foundation.
But, there is even more code, not specifically labelled as DMZ but a quick read over it heavily implies an extraction mode with missions, bosses, and other DMZ related "extract" items.
We've left one final screenshot from CODWarfareForum for you to read over and judge for yourself.
