Fresh DMZ Rumours Suggest Mode Could Go PvE Only

Fresh DMZ rumours suggest mode could go PvE only, if and when it releases with Call of Duty 2026. DMZ has had a busy week of rumours and leaks with TheGhostofHope suggesting the mode will release with Call of Duty 2026.

He took to Twitter again last night to clarify and confirm the direction the Call of Duty extraction mode is taking from a development stand-point.

Just a few days ago we reported that DMZ is likely to return after leaks later last August and then TheGhostofHope, a reputable leaker, seemingly confirm developement was still under way via twitter.

DMZ does look set to return but not as we knew it. This time around the mode will reportedly be linked to Call of Duty 2026 rather than it's Warzone counter-part. This news means that it may require the player purchase the game and will no longer be a free-to-play title.

If the recent rumours are true, the mode will have it's own dedicated version of the Warzone engine, this means when an update is rolled out for DMZ it will strictly affect DMZ and not Warzone, or vice versa.

It will share it's maps with Ground War not Battle Royale. This is a confusing statement, but Ghost did clarify later on that DMZ will have it's own maps then Ground War will utilize the POI's of these maps for itself. DMZ will likely launch with a large map as it did originally.

There is a debate around the mode being Player vs Environment or Player verses Player verses Environment. Simply put this states that it could have players killing players or players vs AI only. I feel that going the PvE route would be a mistake as most of the enjoyment and excitement from DMZ came from the risk of constant combat from other real players.

Gray Zone Warfare, another popular Extraction game, offers the option of both. You can either enter the world full of enemy players who are waiting to attack and steal your loot or you can enter the world, which still has other real players it in, but they simply can't attack you.

PvP combat was a real point of contention in the original game with the community split down the middle whether it should include it or not. The fairest way would be to implement a system that allows players to choose either PvP or PvP lobbies as we previously suggested.
